Meet our Bucks & Wethers!

Archie

Serving as our lead buck, Archie is quite the handful and has been ever since he was a baby. He’s a natural socialite but as he’s gotten older, he truly takes on the role of barnyard protector. His voice is loud and shrill, his horns won’t stop growing, and he will never back down to a head-butting duel. He’s produced some strong genetics in his offspring which keeps each day interesting!

Winston

This guy is such a stud, a moonspotted one to be exact! Winston, although large and incredibly agile, is really just a big teddy bear. He’s the most docile, loving, and absolute mediator in our boy goat herd. His favorite buddy of all time is Meatball - if you see Winston, Meatball isn’t far off. We can’t wait to see Winston’s future kids and can’t get enough of his floppy airplane ears.

Moses (“Meatball”")

Third born to his older brothers, Meatball is the son to Archie and Mini Moo. He needed some help coming into the world because he was so plump and his mom was out of puff when it was time to deliver him. He came out looking like a multi-colored meatball! One of our more passive bucks, he still puts up a fight in the pecking order, coming in at #3 out of 6 - I mean, look at that handsome beard. Occasionally, he’ll come up and try to lie on you for snuggles, but most of the time, he’s acting grown up and turning into quite a handsome buck.

Abe

Abe was our first goat kid born on the homestead - on Christmas evening in the middle of our human Christmas family dinner! He was so strong as a baby and curious can’t even begin to describe his personality - then and now. Abe can be bratty with the other goats but is an absolute cuddle bug with any size human. He loves to be walked and brushed and occasionally go to Tractor Supply. Like his mother Margo, we often threaten to make him freezer meat due to the chaos he creates at times, but overall, we love this boy. He just hasn’t gotten the memo of his barnyard duties as a wether - he believes that he’ll be a forever buck!

Gary

Gary came to our herd as part of the “fabulous five” pygmy herd. He’s a wether, looks like he has sideburns, and is quite feisty. His best bud has become Victor but when head-butting, thinks it’s kinda weird that Victor doesn’t have horns! Gary does not like to be touched much and is still a little feral, but wherever you go in the pastures, he’s right there too. Gary will be a great big brother to future goat kids on the homestead!

Victor (“Lil Horse”)

Victor is the single born kid to Millie. He’s her rainbow baby. See, Millie had a really hard and traumatic first kidding season and lost her baby. We almost lost her as well. Although it was a turning point in bonding between Millie and her humans, the heartbreak continued when her doe friends started having their babies. But, Millie healed, got stronger and became the herd Auntie! She fell in love with everyone’s babies and truly looked after them, trained them in head-butting, and showed them the ropes. Then, in November 2023, Millie had her next baby - Victor. She became the BEST mom to Victor and his personality started to resemble hers to the core - and, he looks like her twin! Victor is a special goat, the perfect blend of sweetness, agility, and pure humor. I mean, Winston is his dad.

We’ll never be able to part with Victor and as a wether, he’ll live on our farm forever. Pretty sure he has a future as an emotional companion to anyone who needs it. Victor and his mother are thick as thieves around the barnyard.

Otis (“Battlewagon”)

The son of Archie and Mini Moo, Otis is quite the buckling. He barrels his way through anything that’s in his way and is 100% his father’s son, attitude and all. With humans, he’s super snuggly and loves his beard played with, but to the boy goat herd, he’s dominating his way everyday to the top of the pecking order. He just can’t seem to get past Archie. He is our barnyard’s little battlewagon and is going to be quite the handsome buck one day.

Virgil (“Lil Buffalo”)

Virgil is the third born to the second set of triplets from Archie and Mini Moo (making Otis his brother.) This little guy was a COMPLETE surprise when he came out and was solid brown. All of his brothers are predominantly white, but this little guy is believed to have been manifested. See, April’s favorite goat is Mini Moo and every day during Mini Moo’s pregnancy, April would cuddle with her and ask her to just give her one brown baby, one that’s just like her. On that September day, out popped Virgil, who looked like a little buffalo, full of wrinkles and chubbiness. To this day, he will snuggle and lay with you, all 60 pounds of him! Because of his passiveness, he’s at the bottom of the boy goat pecking order, but at the top with his charming personality and cute little buck beard.

Big Head Glenn

Glenn is our first born triplet to Mini Moo and Archie - he’s also Mini Moo’s first kid ever! He came out with a big head, loved to rough and tumble with his brothers, and continues to dominate whatever herd he’s in - despite being a wether! He loves human hugs and getting his horns scratched, as intimidating as those bad boys are! Big Head Glenn loves to be wherever you are and hangs out with our lady herd.

Cosmo “Cosmizzy”

Our homestead mascot, Cosmo holds a special place in all of our hearts. Second born in a set of triplets, he's the son of Mini Moo and Archie. His brothers are Big Head Glenn and Meatball. As with most goat triplets, Cosmo was the one out of the crew who just didn’t get the same nutrients as his siblings while cooking, making him the runt. This led to him being born selenium deficient and facing death without human intervention - which we did! Mini Moo, although a great mom, started to reject Cosmo within hours of his birth, leaving him without the opportunity to get mom’s colostrum. He lost his ability to walk, had zero suckle reflex, and was at death’s door.

So, on a cold January day, we scooped him up, brought him inside, set up a pack and play, and off we went with around-the-clock care. Three days later he began walking on his own, played with our dogs, wore diapers, and bounced all around his pack and play. Every sleep-deprived minute was worth seeing him begin to thrive. In fact, to this day, we all still get a little teary-eyed every time we see him run. On day five, we returned him to his mom, praying she would take him back, worried that she would try to hurt him. Mini Moo got the assignment and within seconds allowed him to nurse and welcomed him right into her belly fur.

Cosmo has thrived ever since and continues to make us laugh with his daily antics, especially when he tries to beat up hay bales. This little guy is the best goat around and can make anyone smile.
